Quest for Perfection

Coach Bronco Mendenhall has asked the team to strive for perfection this year.  Perfection in their assignments, perfection in their effort, perfection in their focus.  The national media has taken this quest and imposed a destination, a BCS bowl game.

Taking a few weeks (months) off to regroup, Cougar Legion is putting its best foot forward to cover what could be a special year and what is already a unique program.  Anyone mentioning the Cruiser episode gets slapped with a wet tuna.  End of story.

Since there is no easy way to catch up, I’ll hit on some things I’ve found interesting in the off-season thus far and we’ll take it a bit at a time, because..well..who are we kidding, we still have about 60 days of summer doldrums until LES rocks again (no… Stadium of Fire doesn’t count.) Let’s get going.

Draft Updates

Just some quick news:

Bryan Kehl was selected by the Super Bowl Champions, the NY Giants, in the 4th round. They were expecting to take him in the 3rd but a WR they were interested in slipped down the board and they couldn’t pass it up. They did trade up to get him in the 4th and he will be heading out soon. He is in a good situation in NY where they lost their top two OLB’s since winning the giant BLING. Continue Reading »

Breaking the Silence

Published by Josh under cougar legion news

Hi everybody.

I can’t speak for Peter, but after the whole episode surrounding Cruiser and the emotions that accompanied it, I was totally burned up. Consumed. I definitely didn’t have any drive to pump up the complete non-story that spring practice turned out to be.

So I just put it down for a while. With no apologies. I needed time to figure out how I felt about the situation and what I wanted to do about it.

Story-lines from Spring

Published by Peter under BYU football, BYU sports

Spring is about renewal. While Cougar Legion has undergone some changes in the last few weeks, we look forward to renewing our personal dedication to providing the very best site we can. Josh and myself appreciate the support of the community and look forward anxiously to the 2008 season and what could be a magical time for a BYU football fan.

But spring brings rebirth as well for the football team. An entire secondary and linebacking corps needed to evolve if games are going to be won in September. What exactly does it mean to lose projected starter Terrence Hooks? Why aren’t internet phenoms cracking into the depth chart? We’ll cover the top stories and what they really mean. On the Road with Cruiser: Cruiser’s Last Ride

Published by Cruiser under BYU football, BYU sports

Late last week Jeff Reynolds, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, made a request to Cougar Legion that I cease posting. I have no wish to continue doing something which runs counter to the desires and interests of the BYU football program. As a result, this will be my last article.

I have greatly enjoyed my time here and the associations I have been able to make with so many of you. Through the hours of research for my articles, I have learned more about the team than I ever thought possible and have grown in admiration and respect for the players and many of the coaches. BYU has a truly unique program, one which, I am convinced, is about to burst onto the national scene in a major and permanent way.

I wish to offer my thanks to Peter and Josh, the owners and caretakers of Cougar Legion, for their trust, patience, and constant professionalism. The more I work with these gentlemen, the more I am impressed with them. I believe they have created a site where BYU fans can share ideas and air differences with both respect and enthusiasm. Much of the credit for the positive tone of this site is attributable to their efforts, as well as to the respectful writing of those who have taken time to share their own thoughts and feelings.

Thanks to all of you for making my time here rewarding and enjoyable. I will always remember the past year as a bright moment in my own life and in the reascendancy of BYU football. Sharing this time with you has made BYU’s success even that much sweeter to me. I’ll continue to read your words, hear your voices, and, of course, join with you in rising and shouting at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Go Cougars!
